All FAQsWhat custody rights do fathers have in Oklahoma City?
Fathers in Oklahoma County have the same standing as mothers to seek legal custody, physical custody, and parenting time once paternity is established. Oklahoma courts then decide custody and parenting time based on the child’s best interests, not a preference for either parent.
Can an Oklahoma City father ask for 50/50 custody?
A father may ask for joint custody, sole custody, or a specific parenting schedule when the facts support it. Oklahoma courts look at the child’s best interests under 43 O.S. § 112. The strongest case shows consistent parenting, safe housing, school involvement, reliable transportation, and a workable exchange plan.
What if the parents were never married?
An unmarried father may need to establish legal paternity first. Only then can the court fully order custody and visitation. Oklahoma’s Uniform Parentage Act sets rules for acknowledged, presumed, and adjudicated fathers, including the paternity presumptions in 10 O.S. § 7700-204.
How is child support calculated for OKC fathers?
Oklahoma uses statutory child support guidelines based on both parents’ incomes, health insurance, childcare costs, and overnights. Documenting your actual parenting time, including overnight counts, can affect the final support number.
What should an Oklahoma City father do if the other parent blocks visitation or threatens to relocate with the child?
